Still alive … sort of
The SMT conference took control of my life for the past month or so, hence the lack of posts. I haven’t really had time to work on anything. I will say, though, that some exciting things are on the horizon:
- tattoo #1 tomorrow at 1pm
- I adopted a new kitten, Charles Edward Ives II
- by Friday I will have applied to all of my schools for next year, one of them being in the UK :O
- a full vegan feast will be had on Thursday, expect many pictures
I have discovered two amazing facial scrubs, and will post about them here.
Scrub #1: Aspirin Scrub
Put 2-3 non-coated aspirin tablets in a small bowl. Add a few drops of water to each tablet, just enough to break them apart. Add two squeezes of honey. Mix and mash, then apply all over your face. Let sit for 8-10 minutes, then scrub off. For extra exfoliation, use an old electric toothbrush and use in circular motions for about 2 minutes. Follow with toner (I recommend Burt’s Bees Garden Tomato) and moisturizer (I recommend Origins A Perfect World moisturizer). Repeat every 2-3 days.
Scrub #2: Olive Oil Scrub
Mix 1/2 cup of fine granulated sugar, 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (must be extra virgin and nothing else!) and 2 tablespoons of honey. This makes a bunch, so mix it in a plastic container with a lid. Don’t refrigerate it or the oil will separate and get funky. Cleanse as normal (I suggest St. Ives Apricot Cleanser), then apply the olive oil scrub. The sugar will exfoliate while the olive oil and honey moisturize. Leave on for two or three minutes, then rinse. Follow with toner (Burt’s Bees Garden Tomato is great) and moisturizer (again, Origins A Perfect World is a good one). Do this every night. In the morning just cleanse, tone, and moisturize. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your skin clears up.
I use both of these scrubs and my skin has improved by leaps and bounds. And the beautiful thing is they are easy to make and really cheap! If you’re not a honey user, you can omit it from both, although the scrubs won’t stick to your skin as well. I suppose you could try replacing it with Agave Nectar, but I’m not sure what the results will be. Let me know if you try!

The Morning News – Still Life
This is some amazing art. Basically, each picture is taken at the point of impact. Very cool. And it involves things being broken/smashed, which I naturally approve.

Don’t forget to preorder your Ravelry shirts! Today is the last day!
Unrelated … I found out that the church I work for is giving out yarn to crafty lasses to make Prayer Shawls. I’m so getting in on this action. I think I’ll use the yarn to figure out afghan stitch. Or maybe I’ll do a variation of the Galaxy Afghan. oooo. The possibilities are endless.

Easy peasy. I have another hat in the works for someone I met while working on this hat at my job on campus. (I knit while I sit in the computer labs and get paid 7.24$ to do so. It’s nice.) I’m doing the same thing but with a different color. For this new hat I have been paid in 100 bags of Kenyan tea, curry spice, and mussala. I can’t wait to use all of those things.
The baby blanket is about halfway completed, and I bought some yarn yesterday from Knitche in Downers Grove, IL. I’ll do a yarn pr0n post in the very near future.

October 13th, U of Michigan. I have secured two tickets. So … no YarnCon. But I think seeing Henry Rollins is the better choice.
Alrighty, here is the picture parade:
Yarn I bought to make a blanket for my professor/advisor’s baby boy, due December 21st. I’m thinking I’ll crochet some granny squares and throw them together, but I’m not sure yet.
The very beginnings of a hat I’m making for a friend. I kind of promised I’d make it for him …. last year. Anyway. I’m winging the pattern. I cast on 72 sts and plan on doing rib stitch for about 8 or 9 inches, then I’ll do a simple decrease pattern.
One ear of the Prince version of the Katamari earmuffs. I love how the decreases look on the inside of the muff.
I’m almost finished with the shell part of Knitty’s Nautie. That’s just fun to say. This will eventually be a toy for a kitten, so it’s being made with Red Heart and 100% polyester fill. The red pseudo-variegated color will be for the head/tentacles.
Well, that’s it for now. I should probably go get some work done. Or maybe shower.

BG Cemetery
![]() |
| Bowling Green Graveyard |
Today was a gorgeous day in Bowling Green, so I decided to finally check out the cemetery that sits in the middle of campus. There were about four varieties of gravestones, so there isn’t anything as remotely interesting as the Wien Zentralfriedhof. But it’s still a cemetery. And cemeteries are cool! I took some pictures with my fisheye lens as well, and will put those up once I get them developed and scanned. (I’d do it myself but I don’t have a dark room at my disposal.)
